Time for Plex — Support

Time is an independent, third-party app. It is not made by, affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Plex, Inc. It connects to your own Plex account and server, the same way any Plex client does.

Time is an Apple Watch client for your Plex library: browse, search, and play your movies, shows, music, and live TV right on your wrist — no phone needed.

Getting started

1. You need a Plex account and access to a Plex Media Server (yours, or one shared with you).
2. Open Time — it shows a 4-character code.
3. On your phone or computer, go to plex.tv/link, sign in, and enter the code.
4. The watch finds your servers automatically. If you have several, pick one — you can switch any time in Settings.

Playback

• Video is streamed at a watch-friendly quality — your server converts it on the fly. Pick a preset in Settings → Video Quality (Data Saver is best on weak connections).
• Your watch progress syncs back to Plex, so you can pick up on the couch where the wrist left off.
• Music plays through Bluetooth headphones — watchOS will prompt you to connect a pair.
• The clock is hidden during playback by default; re-enable it in Settings → Playback.

Live TV

The Live TV section appears when your Plex server has Live TV & DVR set up (a tuner or an IPTV source). Tap a program in the guide to tune in. Live streams run a few seconds behind broadcast — that buffer is what keeps playback smooth on a watch.

Downloads

On any movie or episode, tap Download to save a watch-optimized copy for offline playback — plane mode, runs, anywhere without your server. The app checks free space first and shows the estimated size. Manage everything under Downloads on the home screen. (Downloads work on a real Apple Watch, not in the simulator.)

Is Time made by Plex?

No — Time is an independent, third-party client, built to work with Plex's open API. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Plex, Inc.

The app says a server is offline.

That's reported by plex.tv — check that the server machine is on and Plex Media Server is running. Offline servers appear greyed out at the bottom of the picker.

Live TV says it couldn't tune the channel.

That message comes from your server's tuner. Check the antenna/tuner hardware and that the channel works in the official Plex apps.

Playback stutters or takes long to start.

Lower the quality preset in Settings. Also note the first play after a while can take a few extra seconds while your server spins up the transcoder.

Do I need my iPhone nearby?

No. Time runs entirely on the watch. On Wi-Fi (or cellular models), it works with your phone in another country.
